In the US, there are little to no regulations on pet bird toys. Lots of things sold as toys for birds, especially in major chain pet stores that aren’t bird-specalizd, have something or another about them that is dangerous, risky, or just poor quality. Unfortunately, bird parents have to put forth some effort to learn what products are okay and which ones are probably better to avoid. Soft plastics
Metals that are not stainless steel – especially avoid galvanized metals
Cotton rope toys
Toys colored with unsafe dyes
Clips, chains with openings
Toys that are okay:
Natural dried palm leaves
Untanned leather
Natural untreated sisal rope
If colored, dyed with vegetable-based dyes
Stainless steel
